Carwyn Jones (Ngāti Kahungunu) is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Victoria University of Wellington. He holds undergraduate degrees from Victoria University of Wellington and a PhD from the University of Victoria, British Columbia. His primary research interests relate to the Treaty of Waitangi and indigenous legal traditions. Prior to joining the faculty, he worked in a number of different roles at the Waitangi Tribunal, Māori Land Court, and Office of Treaty Settlements. He is a Co-Editor of the Māori Law Review, a member of the Māori advisory committee to the New Zealand Law Commission, and is currently a negotiator for his own community, negotiating a settlement of their historical claims. He is the author of the forthcoming book New Treaty, New Traditions – Reconciling Māori and New Zealand Law to be published by UBC Press in early 2016.
